WELCOME TO BOATING IN FRANCE

experts on

THE WATERWAYS OF FRANCE AND EUROPE

Boating in France is for everyone interested in any aspect of boating in France - whether with their own boat, or those interested in hiring a boat, perhaps for the first time, or even for those just interested in a boat trip. It was compiled by Clive Edwards, a Yachtmaster and former Auxiliary Coastguard with many years experience of boating on coastal and inland waterways throughout Europe.

So, whether you’re interested in cruising around the French inland waterways, or around the coast, you should be able to find what you’re looking for here - and don’t forget, this site isn’t just for boat-owners, it also includes information of interest to anyone looking to hire a boat for their holidays, to buy a boat, or for those just looking to take a boat trip, or even those who’d like to walk or cycle along the canal towpaths!

Boating in France are UK agents for Nicols Boats, one of the leading French boat hire fleets operating on all the major and most attractive waterways for cruising. Nicols operate a fleet of more than 400 cruisers from some twenty bases throughout the French inland waterways system - You can chose to rent a boat from a range of cruisers varying in size from those with just two berths up to those that will accommodate twelve people and even feature their own swimming pool! For those interested in owning their own boat you can just choose to buy one of Nicols cruisers either new or second-hand.

For more information, to book on-line, or to buy a boat simply click on the “Nicols” button below, or email boating@hornbeam-cottage.co.uk  for a free full colour Nicols river cruising brochure.

Please note that the Nicols website works best using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome as browsers.  Problems may be experienced with the Internet Explorer 7 or above.  Both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are free downloads. Mozilla Firefox can be downloaded from http://www.mozilla.org/  and Google Chrome from http://www.google.com/chrome/

Nicols Boats - one of the leading French boat builder with hire fleets operating on all the major and most attractive waterways.

So what does Boating in France do, apart from acting as agents for Nicols cruiser hire and boat sales? Firstly we publish our own guides, including our comprehensive introductory guide to the French Inland Waterways, and our own “Boating Basics” guide.

Boating in France are also UK distributors for the comprehensive “Guides Fluvial” series of specialist navigational guides to each of the French waterways.

For further details of all these guides simply click on the “publications button” above

For 2010 we are also featuring an exciting new week-long boating holiday on the Canal du Midi in a solar-powered barge running some 75km from Carcassonne to Beziers. With accommodation for 14 people, all in 2-berth cabins, this really is sustainable tourism at its best where the long hours of sunshine generating the electricity to power the barge’s motor and providing hot water too. The cruise includes “shore-excursions” to a wind farm, vineyards and a Cathar castle. For further details click on the www.naviratous2.com link or email boating@hornbeam-cottage.co.uk .

Through our associates, Belle France, we can also offer ABTA bonded “package deals” including travel to your chosen cruising area by air, rail or with your car as a ferry-inclusive arrangement. For further details click on the “Links button” above and go to the Belle France website.

If you do prefer to travel “Rick Stein” style as a passenger on a barge, our colleagues at Belle France can book you on a range of different barge holidays, including those operated by the 18 passenger “Phenicien” on the River Rhone and Canal du Rhone between Avignon and Aigues-Mortes, or on one of the Canal & Co’s five barges operating in the heart of France.

We’ve also accumulated a lot of information, contacts etc regarding other boat hire operators, sailing schools, barging holidays, day-boat hire etc and you can access this information by clicking on the “Data button” above.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for here, then send an email to boating@hornbeam-cottage.co.uk and we’ll do our best to help you with information about any aspect of boating in France, or the French inland waterways.

Although we are specialist consultants for the inland waterways of France, we do also have extensive knowledge of other European inland waterways, including those in Britain. Furthermore we have written our own guides to the inland waterways of Britain as well as a more general guide to the inland waterways of other European countries.

You can purchase either of these guides from us in CD format (we don’t produce hard-copies of these two guides) by clicking on the “publications button” above.

If you’re interested in ships and shipping we’ve also added a link from this website to the interesting “Marine Traffic” website which you can access to see ships movements around the coasts of Britain, France and elsewhere. Click on the “AIS” button above.

We hope our website and services will help to make your boating become “bonnes voyages”
